Believe it or not, there are many people out there that don't have the faintest idea of how to correctly punctuate a sentence. I'm afraid this subject is my bete noire.

Once again, can I bring your attention to this please. Please try not to use text speak as some of our members find it very difficult to understand. Thank you

I'm afraid I really don't like text speak. I find it annoying and unnecessary when we have a perfectly usable language that in my opinion is fast disappearing. The complete lack of punctuation really grates on my nerves too. I find the whole aspect of it quite rude to be honest. Aren't I a miserable moo! Laughing

No you're not because I feel just the same Gill and I'm certainly not a miserable moo Wink

I have drawn one contributor's attention to it already today but it doesn't seem to have sunk in.

I read a GREAT solution for all of our reading-and-writing-problems today!

Now listen:

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as 'Euro-English'.

In the first year, 's' will replace the soft 'c'. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard 'c' will be dropped in favour of 'k'. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter. There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome 'ph' will be replaced with 'f'. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where! more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent 'e' in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as
replasing 'th' with 'z' and 'w' with 'v'.

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary 'o' kan be dropd from vords kontaining 'ou' and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

If zis mad you smil, pleas pas on to oza pepl.

Allo Allo is one of the best comedys going and watch it all the time even though they are all repeated and i think i could know the scripts word for word when watching them lol and i could speak like that with the accent if i could read it correctly spelt lol but then it probably helps because my parents spoke broken English with a similar kind of accent lol

Some posts are more difficult to read but please be aware that some members may have difficulties with spelling, grammar and punctuation for whatever reason. As long as we get the general idea of the post

spelling and grammar are fine, I don't think anyone is perfect there - it is text speak and lazy shortening of words which are difficult for many to read and understand.

Confession. To me as a foreigner it really is a bit weird to see how we are drilled and trained over here, year after year, to write and speak English, almost no room for errors... and then see the native speakers só 'sloppy' in their use of the language. It is not forbidden to be proud of your own language Wink

I mean, of course there are dyslectics not able to write correctly, and those are not the people I address. But certainly it must be managable to have a bit of respect for your own language, acknowledge the beauty of it and honour it by simply trying to do it justice.
